God Bless America.

That would have to be the prevailing sentiment after reading about the case of Denny Kwan, a 24-year-old Cambodian actress who’s been banned from making new movies for a year because she’s been deemed as “too sexy” by the country’s cultural bosses.

Kwan, who has a number of movie credits to her name as well as a worldwide Facebook following of 300,000, was said to have violated a code of conduct by Culture and Fine Arts Ministry officials. That code of conduct’s mission is reportedly to promote the preservation, maintenance of arts, culture, tradition and the identity of the nation and prevent any negative effects of the arts and tradition of the nation.

Kwan told Cambodian newspaper the Phnom Penh Post that she disagrees with the Cambodian culture’s stance, but will comply with their wishes and take the sexy down a notch.

“In Cambodia, there are many sexy artists. Some are even more than me when shooting, featuring kissing and being erotic,” she said. “I know it’s my right to dress how I want, but our culture, Cambodian people, cannot accept it, I will now try not to be sexy as I usually am when I post on Facebook.”

As you’ll notice from her social media posts, that could be a tall order.
