It’s one of the last things us guys want to hear, but there’s a good chance that all that bedroom hoopla is nothing more than a theatrical performance a lot of times.
According to a study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, a staggering 8 out of 10 of women have faked orgasm at least once in their lives, and more than 50 percent of women say they do so regularly.
And it gets worse. The subjects gave 143 different reasons for faking it, from something as benign as boredom to something as vexing as brushing up on their acting skills. The more common reasons — too drunk, too tired or it was taking too long — are what you would expect, though.

The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Kansas, who used 1,600 men and women to carry out their findings. In all, 64 percent of both men and women pretended to reach climax at some point in their lives, with 41 percent of men saying they have.
The study’s co-author, Professor Omri Gillath, says there are also more deep-seated reasons why people fake orgasm.
“Faking orgasms is associated with sexual dysfunction and marital issues,” Gillath said. “Our findings can help clinicians to better tailor therapy.”
Remember that before you go patting yourself on the back next time. All that hootin’ and hollerin’ might just be for effect.
