If minute man syndrome is a concern for you in the bedroom, a new study says your waist line might need to be trimmed down.
Data published in the International Journal of Impotence Research surveyed 100 men and found that those subjects with waist sizes over 40 inches were three times more likely to experience premature ejaculation than their slimmer-waisted brethren.
The study also uncovered some alarming trends related to finishing too quickly. Fifty-one percent of men who struggled with their staying power also met the criteria for metabolic syndrome, heart unhealthy factors that include any three of the following: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, a waist circumference above 40 inches, low HDL (good cholesterol) and elevated blood triglycerides.

Of the subjects found to be premature ejaculators, those exhibiting signs of metabolic syndrome ejaculated at a rate far quicker than those without metabolic syndrome, 1 minute and 49 seconds to 3 minutes and 43 seconds comparatively.
The reasons for this, according to the study, are clear. The issues that arise from metabolic syndrome can all in their own ways impact how long you can hold out. Like with diabetes, high blood sugar can cause issues with nerves and the production of nitric oxide, both things that can effect ejaculation time.
High blood pressure can also impact the nervous system, resulting in premature ejaculation. And abdominal obesity (the clinical term for a big ol’ waist) can convert testosterone to the female hormone estradiol, which in turn means a decreased libido and performance anxiety.
One more reason to make sure your gut stays firmly tucked behind your belt.
