It looks like the days of the personal aircraft, similar to what we see hovering around the skyline in movies set in the future, are upon us.

A new electric aircraft called the Kitty Hawk Flyer has managed to make that hard-to-fathom vision something of a reality. The technology won’t be the answer to congested urban roadways any time soon, but if flying high above a lake or in some wide-open area in ultralight territory tickles your fancy, the Kitty Hawk could be the toy for you.

According to their website, the all-electric aircraft is legal to operate in the United States without a pilot’s license and flying it can be mastered in minutes. It can also both land and take off from the water.

No word yet on price, but the Kitty Hawk requires a three-year membership at a cost of $100, and the aircraft itself will be available for purchase at the end of the year.

We’ll no doubt be seeing these bad boys in movies sometime soon.
