The first thing that comes to your mind when you see the word “calving” may be baby cows, but it’s actually when huge chunks of ice fall from a glacier. Sounds like no big deal, but it actually makes for a pretty epic scene, and on May 28, 2008, Adam LeWinter and Jeff Orlowski captured a historic break-up at the Ilulissat Glacier in Western Greenland.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it’s the largest glacier calving event ever captured on film, as the height of the ice was about 3,000 feet, with 300-400 feet above water.
