During a week chock-full of cinematic reboot news and reviews (Matrix franchise and Beauty and the Beast, we’re looking at you), Eddie Murphy has decided to stoke speculation about revisiting a particular ’80s gem.
While this certainly doesn’t represent confirmation that Murphy’s following through with rebooting Coming to America, the tweet definitely got the internet buzzing.
Adding to the rumor mill is an interview Vanessa Bell Calloway, the woman pictured in Murphy’s tweet, did with TMZ.

Sources close to Eddie tell us he’s in the early writing stages of the project. No word yet on which original cast members would return because he’s still tinkering with the plot. So, it really could happen, but the mystery is how it ended up on Twitter… The tweet and Eddie’s whole account have since been deleted. That’s most likely because we’re told there was a plan to post something like this, but it wasn’t supposed to happen yet. As we said, Eddie’s still writing.
So, what do we think? It’s kind of tough to speculate about a Coming to America sequel in light of Murphy’s apparent realization that he spilled the beans a bit prematurely—but who knows? Maybe Coming to America II is in the works, after all.
