The latin phrase in vino veritas (there is truth in wine) suggests that we’re the most candid version of ourselves when we’re under the influence of alcohol.
When 25-year-old Texan Marissa Ann Sluss called police around 3 a.m. last Thursday and told them that her and her friend, 20-year-old Hannah Marie Webb, were both too drunk to operate her vehicle, she was clearly that forthcomingly sloshed and then some.

Police in Friendswood, Texas (outside of Houston), say they found the two women stopped in the middle of the road while Sluss was on her phone and reeked of alcohol. Sluss ultimately failed a sobriety test, and police also determined that Webb was intoxicated as ell. Sluss was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated ,and Webb was arrested and charged with public intoxication.
It’s probably never a good thing to get in vino veritas drunk, but in this case, it may have saved a few lives.
