Wonder Woman has been the summer’s biggest blockbuster thus far, highlighting the girl power theme with its female director and lead actor. But the women cast as Amazons in the movie further that message with their rea- life roles as professional athletes, police officers and more.

Among them is Swede Madeleine Vall Beijner, a stunt woman, fighter, model and personal trainer. She plays Amazon warrior Egeria in the film and on Instagram she revealed that after some intense training, the women were expected to look as ripped as men have in similar movies.

“The trainers said they wanted us to look like the female version of 300,” she said.

Another of Wonder Woman’s finely-tuned female warriors is Brook Ence, an American crossfit champion who plays Penthesilea in the movie. She said it was a nice change to be surrounded by women in a world typically dominated by men.

“It really is cool to see this whole training area, and there’s not one male figure in sight,” she said. “It’s just women wrestling other women, kickboxing, doing pull-ups and practicing with spears—just a lot of stuff that in the real world is very male-dominated.”
