New social media trends for models and celebrities pop up almost every other week to the point where it’s almost impossible to keep track of all the random hashtags and Instagram campaigns. But a recent craze known as “ribcage bragging” may be more internet hype than anything.
According to the Daily Mail, models, actresses, singers and social media stars all seem to be partaking in a new fad where they basically accentuate their rib cage to show how skinny they are. The Daily Mail story included several Instagram pics from the likes of Kate Beckinsale and Emily Ratajkowski to prove its point.

But as Men’s Health points out, this may not be the craze that Daily Mail makes it out to be.
Per Men’s Health:
What the Daily Mail did was compile a list of photos from a variety of female celebrities whose ribs were visible. Most of these celebrities were models or women who were already known for being thin individuals. Were they actually bragging about their ribcages in the posts? Not that we could tell.
In fact, there is one photo, out of all of the photos on Instagram, tagged with #ribcagebrag or #ribcagebragging. One. It was posted by Yahoo Style UK, in direct reference to the Daily Mail article. Similar story for #ribcage… it most popularly references either drawings or tattoos of ribcages. Having a hard time seeing the relevant ‘trend’ here.
So, there you have it. Just skinny girls being hot with a few rib cages being visible in the process. Not a trend at all. Crisis averted. We can now all go on with living our lives.
