Angel Giuffria has had to overcome the kind of odds that would keep most on the sidelines.
But rather than let being born without part of her left arm dictate her life, she’s used it as a means of becoming captain of her own ship, securing extra and background parts in a number of films. She’s snagged roles in such big-budget films as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay and The Accountant, sometimes being cast because she wears a prosthetic arm and sometimes without the director even knowing.
That prosthetic arm, however, has become an instrumental part of her life, and she’s upgraded it to one of the most advanced prosthetic arms on the market, the bebionic3. And as she demonstrates in the video below, the robotic limb has a special attachment that allows her to participate in one of her favorite pastimes — archery.
Giuffria explains that the arm controls her muscles and it’s actually changed her life for the better.
“It’s been awesome since I’ve had it,” she told Popular Science. “…I always thought it was a hindrance, but since I got this arm I kind of decided that I was going to embrace it…I just feel like my arm is actually opening doors where I was concerned were closed to me before.”
