The 2001 cult classic film Donnie Darko, also known as the film that jumpstarted the career of Jake Gyllenhaal, is one of those trippy mind-benders that you have to watch two, three or even 10 times to truly appreciate its brilliance. And like most films, there’s nothing like watching it on the big screen to soak in all its sci-fi epicness. Which is why this latest bit of news has us giggling like school children.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the film will be reintroduced to select theaters across the nation to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the film.
But wait, it gets better. The screenings will use a 4K restoration of the film that was released on Blu-ray last December…pretty damn cool!
A little bit of Donnie Darko trivia for you while you wait for the release: The main reason the film was even made to begin with was thanks to the financial contributions by Drew Barrymore, which she did to ensure its box office release. She also insisted on starring in the film, with hopes that her star power would save the film. Unfortunately it didn’t…the film tanked, which could have something to do with the film involving a plane crash and the fact it was released a month after the 9/11 attacks.
But if you’ve never seen Donnie Darko, this revamped version should be the perfect excuse for you to get out and finally see this classic.
