With the media hooplah surrounding the hypothetical Mayweather and McGregor fight, a former opponent of Mayweather’s has voiced his opinion on the issue. And why not? Everyone else has.
Back in 2013, Canelo Alvarez fought Mayweather, who handed him the only loss of his 48-win career, and Alvarez thinks it would be a disgrace to boxing to put McGregor in a ring with Mayweather.
“I think it’s a joke,” Alvarez told TMZ. “It’s disrespectful to boxing.”
Speaking of Alvarez, boxing legend Oscar de La Hoya told TMZ back in December that Alvarez could destroy McGregor in a fight. So maybe that’s also a potential match-up down the road.
We kid, but this doesn’t change the fact that both Mayweather and McGregor have been engaging in a media circus for months, all the while, not getting any closer to a fight.
From the sounds of it, Alvarez doesn’t think the fight will happen, and we’re starting to feel the same way. Besides, isn’t Floyd retired anyways?
