The monkfish draws a lot of comparisons to lobster for its fine texture and sweet, light flavor, but the appearance of these things is completely contrary to what they look like on a plate.
Their enormous round, flat heads comprise about 75 percent of their bodies and they look like some sort prehistoric sea mutant. Ugly would be a compliment. And as the diver in this video found out, once it latches onto its prey, it doesn’t let go.

Luckily, they were able to pry open its mouth with a stick and free the diver’s hand because another thing the monkfish is known for is having dozens of long, razor-sharp teeth that it won’t hesitate to use.
