This is an especially romantic tale—emphasis on special. This couple, the apparent embodiment of middle-America, recently got engaged courtesy of their local McDonald’s—and then made a very, um, interesting video.
The video is essentially several slides, not set to music or anything like that, comprised of poorly shot pictures: an engagement ring embedded in a McNugget within a box of McNuggets, the words “Will You Marry Me?” scrawled childishly on the lid of box in what appears to be highlighter; an amateurish photo of the man sitting in the passenger seat of a car fumbling with the box of McNuggets; a woman’s hand with an engagement ring on it.
Then, there’s the “interview”—which, oddly enough, looks like it was taken from a local news-human interest piece—and consists of two lines.
Man: Her love for chicken nuggets is, I’m sure, more than she loves me.
Woman: I know it sounds bad, but I go to McDonald’s a lot–heheh—and I always get chicken nuggets. I will never—I won’t get anything else.
Riveting stuff.
Barstool Sports somehow has a more in-depth look into how the proposal went down, along with the surprisingly high degree of planning that went into what will hopefully become some sort of American tradition:
After getting the blessing from his girlfriend’s parents, the guy went to a nearby McDonald’s early in the morning and asked for McNuggets. While he was initially denied his request because it was still breakfast hours, the entire staff got together, prepped the necessary equipment, and cooked a special order of 20 McNuggets once the manager learned that he wanted them for a wedding proposal.
After embedding a ring in one of the nuggets, the guy drove to his girlfriend’s to pop the question. While she was still a little groggy, he hand-delivered her the box of McNuggets. As she opened the box up, he got down on one knee and asked the question.
Incredible. These two people absolutely deserve each other and I genuinely wish them all the happiness in the world and a diet high in the glorious, sumptuous, life-giving fast-food chain that is Mickey D’s—may their love shine as brightly as the golden arches.
